FerroTrans (FT), a subsidiary of Poltava ore mining and processing plant (POMP), has been granted a 5,350 hectare plot near the Donuzlav lake in the north west of the Crimena peninsula for building a dry cargo terminal. The move is controversial as this area is popular with holiday makers.
POMP is the Ukraine’s largest producer of iron ore pellets, more than 90 % of which (8 mtpa) is exported, and has been lobbying to have its own export facilities for some time. The government has given the go-ahead, but POMP will be required to finance the whole project itself. POMP is majorityowned by politican Konstantin Zhevago through the Finances and Credit Group (FCG)....
