Cement Australia ships out

CSL Australia (CSLA), the local subsidiary of Canada Steamship Lines, has acquired the shipping operations of Cement Australia (CA) for an undisclosed price. CSLA is taking over Cementco Shipping’s dedicated cement carrier GOLIATH, the handy-sized geared bulker CEMENTCO and the charter of the self-discharger ALCEM CALACA in a deal due to close on 29 June.

Last-minute negotiations between maritime unions and the two companies averted a potentially protracted dispute and ensured the ships will remain Australian-flagged and crewed. The ships transport cement products from CA’s Fisherman’s Landing facility in Gladstone, Queensland, and Devonport in Tasmania to terminals along the east coast of Australia....
