The Queensland port of Gladstone hit the 50mt throughput mark last year. Cargo handled over the port's six wharf centres during the 2000 calendar year totalled a record 50,010,662t, an increase of more than 6mt, or 14 per cent, on the 1999 total.
The record comes only two years after Gladstone Port Authority (GPA) posted record cargo growth when throughput exceeded 40 mt in 1998. "This is quite a significant achievement when you consider that in just two years the port's throughput has risen by almost 10mt and that only 16 years ago throughput was 20mt," said GPA chairman Christine Mossman....
