Shorter distance, more choice

Leaving aside pneumatic or hydraulic pipelines, any requirement to transfer bulk materials mechanically over distances of 200m or more almost inevitably involves some kind of belt conveyor, if only because alternative types of mechanical conveyor would be prohibitively expensive to install and operate.

When the conveying length is less than 100m, alternative mechanical conveying systems such as chain, en-masse, screw, bucket and disc-in-tube conveyors also come into the reckoning, especially if the transfer route is inclined....
