Keeping up a famous tradition

Germany has a long tradition in the manufacture of conveyors and other bulk materials handling equipment but many famous names have been driven out of the market or forced to relocate production overseas, because of high domestic production costs.

Conveying technology has a long tradition in Germany, with the majority of equipment being destined for export. However, with a few exceptions, such as FAM (Forderanlagen Magdeburg) and MAN Takraf Fordertechnik GmbH, domestic manufacturing has been cut back drastically over the years or relocated because of high production costs. Machine shops and assembly functions have either been sold or otherwise outsourced and many famous names have disappeared....
