Cargo sampling to ensure that the cargo has the same characteristics as specified in the contract varies significantly depending upon the nature of the commodity. While previously attention has focused on food stock sampling, rising commodity prices, particularly for thermal coal, require that the users and importers make sure they are getting exactly what they paid for.
Stricter environmental regulations, coupled with more sophisticated burning and steam generation technology which is finely tuned to specific types of thermal coal, require more rigorous sampling procedures....
