The market for gantry grab unloaders, in common with other types of dedicated bulk ship unloading equipment for high throughput applications, moves slowly. Equipment is built to last for years and the fact that ship sizes have not changed means there is no need to replace plant. The only real driver is increasing demand for raw materials to fuel economic growth (eg China).

Conversely, modernisation and refurbishment projects of gantry grab unloaders are an important part of the picture. Typically this involves fitting new drives and controls, trouble-shooting and crane management systems to improve reliability and reduce downtimes when the unloader has reached its “half life” stage....
