Danube's downward bulk trend

Leading Brazilian mining group Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) currently uses Rotterdam for most of its iron ore exports to Europe but would like to ship more via Constantza, which currently accounts for just three percent.

CVRD's exports of iron ore and pellets in the first half of this year reached an all time high of 54.91 mt, an increase of 8.4 percent. At 10.36 mt, June was the second best month for exports in the company's history, just behind March 2002 when 10.63 mt were exported. This figure includes exports of CVRD itself and those of its daughter Urucum Mineracao and its pelletizing joint ventures Nibrasco, Itabrasco, Kobrasco and Hispanobras.
