RHM’s Genma adds GSU series ship-unloader

Genma, the materials handling brand of China’s Nantong Rainbow Heavy Machineries (RHM), has taken another step forward with the expansion of its bulk handling line-up with a new “GSU series scrapper unloader”.

The GSU is a continuous type ship-unloader, designed mainly for use with grains and fertilisers in pellet and powder form. The series is designed for vessels below 100,000 dwt, and can deliver an unloading capacity in the range of 300-1,500 tph. The first model to be developed is the GSU 1,000 with a capacity of 1,000 tph.

The new equipment was designed using Discrete Element Method (DEM) simulation, which is used in bulk materials handling to model the handling and processing of free flowing bulk materials. Genma invested in its own laboratory equipment to collect performance and parameter data that can be used in the DEM analysis to simulate the unloading conditions and optimise the performance of the machine.

CSUs are known for their energy efficiency, and Genma said its design achieves an energy cost of around 0.4 kWh/t. At the same time, the scraper design of the GSU achieves a practical capacity that the company said is “nearly equal to 70% of the rated capacity”, while requiring much less clearance between the vessel and the machine than a grab unloader. As the conveying system is enclosed, the operation is dust-free to protect the environment.

Genma noted that, as well as being eco-friendly, the GSU meets the market demand for equipment that is easy to operate. Unlike a grab unloader, the GSU does not rely on the operator’s skill to achieve a high unloading rate and is “fool-proof” to control.
