China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) has developed a concept for a 0.4 Mtpa terminal with 100,000t of one-time crop storage o be built on the banks of the Amur River, a natural Sino-Russian border, at the Russian regional centre of Khabarovsk.

The state-run Ukrainian Seaports Authority (USPA) has registered a new grain terminal at the Black Sea port of Olvia as a new terminal operator. Run by Lithuania’s BT Invest and Ukraine’s Eurovneshtorg, the new terminal started operations in December 2018. It expects to handle 1 Mt of grain this year.
Since 2014, Russia’s major steel and mining group Mechel has invested around US$60M to transform its fully owned Commercial Seaport of Posyet on the country’s Pacific coast into a highly sophisticated coal terminal.
Siberian Coal Energy Company (SUEK), Russia’s largest coal producer, has invited bids for carrying out a feasibility study for the construction by 2023 of phase three of its Vanino Bulk Terminal (VBT) on Russia’s Pacific coast. The tender’s results are due to be announced on 28 January 2019.
The Port of Mombasa is to start handling coal imports from Mozambique in preparation for a planned new coal-fired power plant at Lamu. Mozambique’s President Filipe Nyusi said that shipments through Mombasa had been trialled in August, and regular deliveries are due to start in January.
