While the specialised characteristics and trading patterns of self-unloading (but not geared) vessels fall outside regular categorisation by indices such as the Baltic, high freight rates do have a knockon effect and encourage confidence in the dry bulk market. In recent months, there have been increasing signs that the conventional bulk sector is emerging from its worse crisis in over a decade.
