Iran launches new Caspian port

Iran’s fourth trade harbour in the Caspian Sea has been opened at the town of Astara, which is located on the country’s border with Azerbaijan in the north-western province of Gilan.
Currently capable of handling 660,000 tpa, the new port is expected to reach a capacity of up to 3.5 mtpa upon its completion in five years. It will have four terminals, three of which will specialise in handling dry cargoes, and occupy a total area of 55 ha.
