Liebherr for Brake

Niedersachsen Ports GmbH & Co. KG (NPorts), the port authority for the ports of Lower Saxony, has acquired a new Liebherr LH 150 M hydraulic mobile crane for handling bulk in the Port of Brake, where throughput is expected to grow well in the medium term.

The €1.9M machine, weighing 160t, was shipped on eight heavy-haul trucks from the Liebherr factory in Kirchdorf, Bavaria, and erected on site. It has a maximum boom/stick outreach of 29.7m, and is equipped with a 5 m3 and 8 m3 clamshell grabs, a log grab, and a 25t SWL swivel hook. “We can use the crane to tranship loads between barges and coasters, and, because it is rubber-tyred, we can deploy it throughout the port, said NPorts’ managing director, Holger Banik.

The crane also has a variant of Liebherr’s Pactronic hybrid drive, adapted for boom/stick cranes, recycling lowering energy into the next hoist, resulting in lower noise and an estimated 30% reduction in fuel consumption, added Harald Ludwig, NPorts’ manager in Brake.
