Hamersley Iron was finding its system for screening iron ore before loading and shipment overseas inefficient. The cross tensioned rubber screens were completely clogged up and in order to screen the ore, the company was forced to wash it and have heavy chains knocking on the screen cloths. This was a complicated procedure, that reduced capacity and required extra manpower.
