Mmamabula plan back on track

CIC Energy’s plan to develop the Mmamabula coal reserves in Botswana seemed to have collapsed when the company failed to secure sufficient finance last year. However, the Canadian firm has now reached a deal with Shanghai Electric Corporation to proceed with at least half of the original plan.

Shanghai, which is one of the world’s biggest developers of power plants, has been selected as the preferred engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for a 1,320 MW coal-fired power plant, allowing CIC to develop some of the reserves for export.
