Conveyor systems are the arteries of any bulk handling plant but they are essentially “dumb” although electronic control and monitoring could change this.
Conveyors are the most efficient and cost-effective means of moving bulk commodities over short and medium distances. However, they consume large amounts of power and manhours, in the form of cleaning and maintenance. The focus on suppliers is, therefore, to reduce both these elements, even though this may result in a higher initial investment cost for the operator.
