UK ports learn their ABC

Last year the UK imported record volumes of coal, but this looks set to change drastically in the face of environmental concerns and thermal power station closures.

While the UK government lacks a coherent energy strategy, its main focus appears to be ABC – “anything but coal” – as it pursues a renewable energy path. But, with coal prices falling, mainly as a result of increased US exports displaced by its shale gas bonanza, coupled with increasing UK carbon taxes set to be introduced, thermal coal firing has actually increased.
