Vale, Petrobras establish strategic alliance for decarbonisation
NewsVale and Petrobras will enhance competitiveness and advance decarbonisation by testing and marketing renewable diesel, natural gas, and sustainable bunker fuel.
NSU and Vale will install five Anemoi rotor sails on a 400,000dwt VLOC, aiming to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 6-12%.
NS United Kaiun Kaisha, Ltd. (NSU) and Vale International SA (Vale) have reached an agreement to install rotor sails manufactured by Anemoi Marine Technologies Ltd. (Anemoi) on a 400,000dwt VLOC.
The installation of five rotor sails, with a height of 35m and a 5m diameter on the NSU Tubarao vessel is scheduled around September 2025.
A rotor sail is a device to obtain propulsion by using the pressure difference generated around a cylinder by rotating a cylindrical sail installed on the deck. According to Anemoi, it is expected to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions from the ship by approximately 6~12%
NSU has been actively working to make their vessels more efficient and reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through the introduction of energy-saving devices such as rotor sails and by transitioning to ships powered by next-generation fuels.
The NSU Tubarao has been engaged in a long-term transportation contract between NSU and Vale since its delivery in September 2020. It has a LOA of 361m, a beam of 65m, a draft of 23m, and a gross tonnage of 197,453 GT.
Additionally, MOL and Vale have recently retrofitted a Capesize bulk carrier with Norsepower Rotor Sails, marking the first of its kind, aiming to reduce fuel and GHG emissions by 6-10%.
