Conveying system for oil shale power plant

WorleyParsons Beijing, Guangdong Power Engineering Co and Aumund China have worked together to develop a technical conveying solution for a project in Jordan.

The country is building its first oil shale power station in Attarat, 50 km east of Al Qatranah, comprising two 235 MW plant units, and featuring Aumund conveying technology.


The engineering, procurement and construction are the responsibility of Guangdong Power, which awarded Aumund China the order to supply four Aumund Bucket Apron Conveyors type BZB, with plate widths of 1,600 mm, and lengths of 69 m, as well as four Aumund Central Chain Bucket Elevators type BWZ at 53 m high.


The conveying capacities of each machine can reach 375 tph, and the bulk material is bottom ash at temperatures of up to 350 degC.


“The bottom ash is very fine, and spillage can often occur. This is the reason the customer chose Aumund Bucket Apron Conveyors, as these minimise loss of material,” said Henning Rath, technical director at Aumund China.


“Two Aumund Bucket Apron Conveyors and two Aumund Bucket Elevators will operate in each of the two generating units. Our scope of supply also includes items such as steelwork, electrical engineering and sensors.”


The installation of the Aumund machines is planned for the end of 2019.
