ZPMC has delivered a complete bulk loading system to Kuantan Port in Malaysia.
The equipment, which was ordered at the end of 2017, includes a stockyard reclaimer, transfer station, belt conveyors and a shiploader.
It is a milestone for ZPMC as its first “overseas general contracting project”, where the Chinese crane builder was responsible for all the design review, purchasing subcontracting, manufacturing, shipping, installation, debugging and delivery. The order took 18 months to fulfil.
As well as the materials handling equipment, ZPMC was also responsible for the power supply, control systems, lighting and dust control systems. The company said the experience it accumulated from the project will be “the foundation for further expansion” as a general contractor for bulk cargo handling projects.
While ZPMC has its own fleet of delivery vessels, as far as is known none of them have their own cranes. The equipment for this project was shipped by Shanghai Changhang Shipping on its vessel PORTHOS. The delivery from Changxing Island in Shanghai to Kuantan Port in Malaysia was a first for Changhang, and involved pieces up to 17.1m-long.
In another bulk equipment sector, continuous ship-unloaders, ZPMC has recently delivered two units to Datang Power’s Leizhou Plant in Guangdong Province. The machines are rated for continuous operation at 1,500 tph, with a peak rate of 1,800 tph. The unloading system is fully enclosed to prevent fugitive dust escaping during the unloading process.
In the shipyard market, ZPMC has signed a contract for two Goliath cranes with the Karachi Ship Building and Engineering Construction Plant of Pakistan. These are too big to ship fully erect, so will be assembled on the site with the components shipped in containers.
