Transnet secures new loan, reports FY 2023 loss
NewsThe New Development Bank has granted a R5 billion (US$ 280 million) loan to Transnet to improve South Africa’s freight rail infrastructure, locomotives, and wagons.
Transnet has received an operating licence for its new manganese export terminal at the Port of Ngqura, which is part of the Coega Industrial Development Zone (IDZ). The existing manganese facility at Port Elizabeth, which is located just 20 km along the coast, is due to be closed, but difficulties over the environmental clean-up of the site have held up construction of the new facility. The existing manganese terminal at the Port of Saldanha is also expected to be closed.
