A major contract for the turnkey supply and installation of a bauxite handling plant in Guinea has been won by Takraf GmbH

The global aluminium industry and bauxite markets continue to be shaped by China, even as Asia’s largest economy loses some of its recent lustre.

The first shipment of alumina, the feedstock for the Middle East’s first fully integrated aluminium manufacturing complex, at Ras Al Khair in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has departed Alcoa’s Bunbury Port facility in Western Australia.

Alcoa has said that it will reduce its annual alumina production capacity by approximately 390,000t to align production with smelter curtailments it announced earlier this year and to reflect prevailing market conditions.

Alcoa has announced that it intends to curtail operations at three European aluminium smelters as part of a previously reported restructuring in its Global Primary Products business.

Leading aluminium producer Alcoa has announced that it intends to close or curtail approximately 531,000t, or 12% of its global smelting capacity, to cut costs and improve its competitiveness.
