Russia containerises coal exports to China

On 1 December, in response to a new outbreak of coronavirus in China’s northern hinterland regions, the country’s authorities closed its land border to all Russian exports except for containerised cargoes. Huge potential losses – estimated at around US$250M per annum – have prompted Russian commodity producers and carriers to seek alternative ways to deliver their cargoes to the Chinese market.
