Another step for Lamu
NewsThe development of a new port at Lamu in Kenya has taken another step towards becoming reality with the launch of a tender for the design and construction of the first three berths
The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) is considering the introduction of a competitive market in grain handling at Mombasa. At present, Grain Bulk Handlers Ltd holds a monopoly at the port and operates a terminal dedicated to grain and fertiliser imports at Shimanzi. Grain is discharged at the terminal, either in bulk form to be stored in silos or in bagged form for the company’s warehouses. Plans to develop the terminal were drawn up in the early 1980s but the facility was not completed until 2000.
