BHP aims for first ammonia-fueled bulk carrier by 2026
NewsBHP plans to launch its first ammonia-fueled ship by 2026, evaluating eight firms for construction, and awaiting cost assessments, while ammonia engines are expected by 2025.
APM Terminals Callao has said that it will no longer handle any ships carrying ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3) fertiliser in bulk, since it is classified as IMO 1 (explosives) and IMO 5 (oxidants). The company said that it is not in a position to ensure the right operating conditions for this cargo. However, the move is opposed by the Export Association of Peru (ADEX).
