Transnet seeks private operators for Port of Cape Town’s liquid bulk terminal to boost efficiency and revenue, amid infrastructure challenges.

The acquisition is subject to approval from the Commerce and Transport Department, Govt. of Odisha, and Adani expects it to be completed by Q1 FY25.

The volume of mining commodities handled by Transnet has fallen from 181.1 Mt in financial year 2020-21 to 149.5 Mt in 2022-23, with coal particularly affected.

Coal cargoes may release toxic gases, including carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and nitrogen oxides (NOx), which are harmful to human health.

Now operating the facility under the name ‘Reload Dry Bulk Richards Bay Facility’, the warehouse joins Reload’s portfolio, covering all of Sub-Saharan Africa.

Energy trader JERA Global Markets has sold Rietlanden Terminals in Amsterdam to German logistics group Rhenus.
