Rotterdam is the leading coal port in Europe handling almost 29 mt of coal in 2008, or a 31.5% share of the market. Since the beginning of 2000, coal throughput at Rotterdam has increased from 23.1 mt to 28.6 mt. This compares to an average growth of 3% per annum.
