The Great Lakes/St Lawrence Seaway system continues to be one of the world’s major areas for bulk cargo shipments and this year’s navigation season appears to be a good one. A new fee-based incentive system has generated an additional 81,000t of new bulk freight made up of raw sugar, aluminium and calcium ammonium nitrates, while traditional cargoes of ore, coal and grain are witnessing increases.
