Double trouble for South Africa’s Transnet
NewsThe volume of mining commodities handled by Transnet has fallen from 181.1 Mt in financial year 2020-21 to 149.5 Mt in 2022-23, with coal particularly affected.
The first section of the railway between Zimbabwe and the Mozambican port of Beira on the Indian Ocean is to reopen at the end of this year. The line will mainly carry limestone, sugar and timber in the first instance but should also provide an export outlet for coal in the longer term.
