Rio Tinto Alcan responds to downturn in commodity prices

Rio Tinto Alcan has said that it will slow the construction of the Yarwun alumina refinery expansion in Gladstone, Australia, and curtail annual bauxite production at its Weipa mine, Queensland, to 15 mt (from 19.4 mt in 2008) due to the sharp fall in alumina and aluminium demand and prices in recent months.
